The Turquoise
Coast - Lycia region
The Turquoise Coast is famous for its
natural beauty, turquoise seas and shallow
waters. There are many glorious beaches
on this coast line. There is a small
beach in Gulluk which is only a 60 metre
walk from Rose Garden. The scenery is
stunning and Gulluk bay is enchanting
You can sit by the sea and look at the
olive-clad mountains that surround the
bay.
As well as the well developed resorts
and towns there are many un spoilt
Turkish villages in this area and
traditional food is plentiful and
very good. The main roads are very well developed
and very easy to navigate allowing
you to explore the region.
Gulluk
Just around the corner from Rose
Garden is Gulluk town centre where
you are able to wander around its
quaint little shops. You will also
find a local bank, cash machines and
car/moped hire should you need them.
There is a weekly market (Thursday)
here and two excellent supermarkets
that will provide you with all your
supplies. There are a number of bakeries
where you can purchase fresh bread,
traditional Turkish savories and
pastries such as Baklava.
There are a number of restaurants
where you can sample a traditional
Turkish dish, whether it is locally
caught fish or traditional meat dishes.
These can be eaten either in the cafe
or take it away.
The Rose Garden resort is only 60
meters from the sea, where you can
hop on a boat for the day and lap
up the sun or take a dip in the beautiful
Aegean sea. Gulluk has its own beach
and there are others to choose from
in this area. You can also take a
ferry to Bodrum from Gulluk harbor.
You can see the local fishermen bring
in their catch and if you like fish
there is no better place to experience
the taste of fresh fish dishes than
Gulluk's harbor-front restaurants.
There is a fish market in Gulluk so
you can buy your own and cook it back
in the apartment.
By day this gorgeous little fishing
village is quietly energetic with
experiences for both families and
couples alike. I cannot stress enough
just how un spoilt Gulluk is, in the
way in which the Turkish people live
their everyday lives.
By night you can experience the excellent
local restaurants overlooking Gulluk
harbor and the whole wide bay with
the beautiful Aegean Sea. They serve
every type of food and the quality
is excellent. You can have a stroll
along the promenade, stop off and
have a few drinks, or during the summer
months venture out on an evening cruise
on one of the boats situated only
minutes from your apartment. A number
of restaurants provide entertainment
and dancing in the evening.
Wherever you go the local Turkish
people are very friendly and helpful. To find out more about the local area please visit www.gulluk.net.
